Hold them accountable

A letter to Senators Durbin, Fitzgerald, Daschle, McCain, and Feinstein, Speaker Hastert, and Rep. Mark Kirk:

It is becoming increasingly clear that the Bush administration misled the nation and the world regarding the threat of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

It is also becoming clear that the administration tried to run this war "on the cheap," with a minimum of ground troops, and it is the Iraqi people who have suffered, with the loss of their antiquities and much of their infrastructure. So-called "smart bombs" preserved buildings so that the Pentagon's carelessness could allow their dismantling by looters.

I urge the Congress to hold the administration accountable. Investigate the misleading "intelligence" that said this war was so necessary. Investigate the Pentagon's misjudgment about the force needed. Investigate the reasoning that led the Defense Department to believe that the Iraqi culture would be left intact following a war.

This administration is trying to get away with murder.
